The celebration was filled with gratitude, reflection, and fellowship as President Licup expressed her sincere appreciation to the club’s Past Presidents, officers, Board of Directors, committee chairpersons, members, partners, and volunteers who stood beside her in advancing Zonta’s mission of building a better world for women and girls. As a token of her gratitude, special gifts were personally presented to those whose leadership and commitment contributed to the success of the club’s numerous advocacy and community service initiatives.
One of the evening’s most inspiring moments was the recognition of Julie Apali, whose life story became a powerful symbol of women’s empowerment and resilience. Featured prominently in President Shirley Licup’s inaugural address, Julie embodied the transformative impact of opportunity, mentorship, and compassion. During the celebration, Julie was joined by the women of Marikina whom she had personally trained and mentored—women who have since become empowered, self-reliant, and active contributors to their communities. They proudly represented the realization of President Licup’s vision of creating more “Julies“—women whose lives are transformed through education, livelihood, confidence, and leadership.
The gathering served as more than a farewell celebration; it was a testament to the enduring power of servant leadership and collective action. Reflecting on her promise at the start of her presidency, President Licup shared that her greatest accomplishment was not measured solely by projects completed or milestones achieved, but by the lives transformed and the women empowered to become catalysts for change within their own communities. As she concluded her term, the “Julies” stood as living proof that when women are given the opportunity to rise, they become leaders who inspire others to do the same. The Thanksgiving and Appreciation Night beautifully celebrated a legacy built on compassion, collaboration, and the unwavering belief that empowering one woman can transform countless lives and help create a better world for all.
