Founding Anniversary – Flag Raising & Banging of the Peace Bell

Led by President Shirley Licup, the Zonta Club of Greater Rizal II proudly joined the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNA Philippines) and The Fraternal Order of Eagles – Philippine Eagles in commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations Charter through the Symbolic Banging of the UN Peace Bell at the Quezon City Memorial Circle. The solemn ceremony brought together diplomats, government officials, civic leaders, volunteers, youth representatives, and civil society organizations in a shared celebration of the United Nations’ enduring mission of promoting peace, human rights, sustainable development, and international cooperation over the past eight decades.
The ceremonial ringing of the UN Peace Bell served as a profound reminder of humanity’s shared responsibility to uphold the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter. Cast from coins and metals donated by people from countries around the world, the Peace Bell symbolizes global solidarity, friendship, and the universal aspiration for a world founded on peace, justice, equality, and mutual respect. Each resonating chime honored eighty years of international collaboration while inspiring renewed commitment to building stronger communities through dialogue, understanding, and compassionate leadership.
Through its participation, the Zonta Club of Greater Rizal II, under the leadership of President Shirley Licup, reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the ideals championed by Zonta International—empowering women and girls, promoting gender equality, advancing peace, and protecting human dignity. Standing alongside UNA Philippines, the Philippine Eagles, and fellow partners in service, the club demonstrated that meaningful change is achieved when organizations unite behind a common vision of creating inclusive, resilient, and peaceful communities. The occasion also highlighted the importance of collaborative action in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those that foster peace, justice, equality, and strong partnerships.

As the echoes of the UN Peace Bell rang across the memorial grounds, they carried a timeless message of hope, unity, and shared responsibility for future generations. Inspired by this historic observance, President Shirley Licup and the members of the Zonta Club of Greater Rizal II renewed their pledge to continue serving as advocates of peace, volunteerism, and humanitarian action—working hand in hand with local and international partners to help build a more compassionate, equitable, and peaceful world for all.
