In recognition of her commitment to humanitarian service and community leadership, Zonta Club of Greater Rizal II President Shirley Licup was invited by the Philippine Red Cross – Marikina Chapter to serve as one of the distinguished judges during its celebration of International Humanitarian Law (IHL). The event carried the theme, “Galvanizing Commitment to International Humanitarian Law: Challenges and Opportunities in the Asia-Pacific Region,” highlighting the importance of promoting humanitarian principles, protecting human dignity, and strengthening a culture of peace and compassion within communities.
The celebration brought together students, educators, humanitarian advocates, and community leaders in a meaningful educational program designed to raise awareness of the principles and significance of International Humanitarian Law. As part of the observance, the Philippine Red Cross organized three creative competitions for elementary, high school, and college students: the Poster-Making Contest, Slogan-Making Contest, and Spoken Poetry Contest. Through art, literature, and public speaking, participants demonstrated their understanding of humanitarian values, peace, and the responsibility of every individual to uphold human dignity during times of conflict and crisis.
As one of the panel of judges, President Shirley Licup commended the students for their creativity, insight, and passion for humanitarian advocacy. She emphasized the vital role of young people in fostering a culture of empathy, volunteerism, and social responsibility, encouraging them to become future champions of peace and community service. Her participation reflected the Zonta Club of Greater Rizal II’s continuing commitment to supporting educational initiatives, humanitarian advocacy, and collaborative partnerships that inspire the next generation to become compassionate leaders and active contributors to a more peaceful and equitable society.
